We decided to all play as mutants with random mutations – each with a harmful, a powerful, and a distinctive mutation. The distinctive mutations also had a chance of granting a beneficial mutation.
James went for a mutant glaive who fuses flesh and steel. He has a deformed leg for harmful, a bite attack with his powerful, and two extra legs for his distinctive which grants improved nervous system for his free beneficial.
Jennifer went for a mutant jack who works miracles. She has a malformed brain for harmful, filtered lungs for her powerful, and a tendril instead of an arm for her distinctive with puncture resistance as her free beneficial.
Steven went for a mutant nano who rides the lightning. He has slow and lumbering for harmful, pyrokinesis for his powerful, and quills as his distinctive. Because of the power level of quills, he didn’t receive a free beneficial.
Adam went for a mutant jack who crafts unique objects. He has a weakness in Intellect for harmful, face dancing for his powerful, and spider legs from his torso for his distinctive with strengthened bones as his free beneficial.
We didn’t come out of the session with names for our characters, so I’ll use real names to differentiate. We have the following bonds: Jennifer’s miracles have Adam believing she’s the messiah, Adam crafted a razor ring custom-fit for Jennifer’s tentacle, Steven has an affinity with James and can take him around with electrical teleportation, and James has Adam knowing the secrets of his augmentations.
Story-wise, we figured out that Adam was one of the Aeon Priests who experimented on James, until they fled the twisted clave together. James and Adam parted ways, after which James became a crime lord’s bodyguard and Adam joined a traveling circus. Jennifer survived in the mean streets, and happened upon Adam after he had a terrible fall that broke his arm. She healed him, and his fascination with her powers began. Steven became tied to James after leaving his nano master, somehow being connected to him due to his machine nature.
We tooled around with the idea that we each have a number embedded in our flesh, and thus there is some link between us that we don’t understand.
